It is solid but unremarkable and while it is great, as a user sometimes you do wish for more. However, as polished as the Watch 7 experience, I can't help feeling a bit bored with it. For iPhone users, this is a great feature to have in these times. The Watch 7, just like other current Apple Watch variants, also works in tandem with the paired phone to unlock the phone in case the user is wearing a mask. The feature works very well and I found that the tiny speakers in the Watch are good enough for calls, even outdoors and in somewhat noisier conditions. If you have the cellular variant, you can register it on the same number that you have in your iPhone and you will get ability to make calls or receive them on the Watch even when you are away from your phone. In terms of core functionality, the Watch 7 works in tandem with the paired iPhone.

I tested the Watch 7 against a dedicated SPO2 monitor and readings were the same or one point plus or minus. There is the SPO2 (blood oxygen meter) and that too is almost always accurate. The heart rate monitor, which records heart beats as well as can do on-demand ECG, is best in the business. I found the tracking to be precise and useful. What this means is that I can track physical activity like walking, running, climbing stairs and various sports. It is very accurate at what it does but there is nothing new that has been added. If you are counting new features, the Watch 7 is the same as the Watch 6. Of the straps, the fanciest is the Solo Loop but I continue to find the Sports Loop the best of the lot in terms of fit, ease of use and flexibility. One good bit about mostly unchanged design is that the Watch 7 is compatible with previous watch straps. Though it is still quite comfortable to wear throughout the day, and is not heavy like a chronograph watch or the ones with metal straps. The Contour is the funkiest of the three, although I am also partial to the World Time because of the amount of info it can show on the watch face.Ĭompared to the aluminium watch, I find the Watch 7 with steel finish a tad heavier on the wrist. These are: Contour, Modular Duo and World Time.

To highlight the larger display, Apple has also come out with three new Watch faces that are exclusive to the Series 7. The fonts look bigger, and the text more legible.

Apple has fine-tuned the UI of the WatchOS 8 and the accompanying apps to make full use of the bigger screen and thinner bezels. The screen is larger, and I also find it a tad brighter compared to the display on previous Apple Watches. The big deal with the Watch 7 is its display, and it is indeed noticeable. I find using Apple Watch 7 exactly like using the Watch 6. Apple says the new charging puck and the cable allows for 33 per cent faster charging. The crystal cover on the watch dial, says Apple, is tougher and more shatter-resistant.

The battery life in actual use is better. So now it can handle dust as well as water. In use, the extra brightness is perceptible. The display is also slightly brighter in always-on mode. The Watch 7 has a dial size of 45mm and 41mm instead of 44mm or 40mm. It is now 20 per cent bigger and has extremely thin bezels. The biggest change is the display size. But before I talk about my experience with the Watch 7, a quick recap of all the (major) ways in which the new watch is an improvement over the Watch 6.
